THE FILE

With Arsenal five points clear and two games remaining, West Ham thought they had equalised in the 95th minute. VAR official Darren England recommended an on-field review, referee Chris Kavanagh disallowed the goal for a foul on David Raya, and the match ended 1–0.

VARsenal’s case is not that a review is automatically evidence of wrongdoing. The case is that one of the most consequential reviews of the season took four minutes and seventeen seconds, involved an official already central to a previous PGMOL-admitted error, and arrived at the exact point Arsenal’s 22-year wait became commercially and emotionally enormous.

The original archive also keeps the counter-evidence in view: the Squawka analysis did not establish directional pro-Arsenal bias. The file therefore remains marked as a question of structure, pressure and process — with the asterisk added by the pub, not the data table.

“Structural questions: established. Directional bias: not established. Pub-level suspicion: violently elevated.”
